Be prepared to self-distribute your first film. Consider selling DVDs, VOD, and paid per views on the web. Self-distributing to theaters and cinemas is financial suicide.

I have to disagree with QT. Hollywood puts out crappy films most of the time and they draw out the public to theaters. It's all in the marketing of the film. That's why Hollywwod likes to use names people know as a safety net.
Example: Do you reall…

Writer / Director / Editor and President of Modern Day Myth Productions LLC. Fantasy, Horror, Science Fiction Writer
I am looking to collaborate with other filmmakers for the development of new and exciting projects in the Science Fiction, Horror, Fantasy, Action Adventure and mixtures of these genres. I'm best known for VSA.
I sold, THE HAND OF NEMESIS, a horror short spec script, on Jan. 19, 2007 to Rack Focus Production. It was produced under the title: NEMESIS by Eighth Son Productions just this year.
2008 is the year I, CREATOR began development. It is a science fiction / dark comedy Independent video project. I wrote this screenplay with inspiration of making a zero budget movie with quality and class. It is possible by shooting the production with HD video and editing with Sony Vegas Professional 8 software. I will do DVD authoring with Nero software. Along with this combination, the production will have to be very organized and careful planning, serious people who share a dream to make quality for less with the cast and crew, calling in favors with my friends in the industry, and DVD final cuts in both NTSC and PAL for regular DVD packaged disks. The first step will be to get three character sheets illustrated and a conceptual art / teaser illustration made. Casting for I, Creator took four months.
We shot I, Creator from December 1 to December 14 in Southold, Long Island in a great cottage and shoot for another week in March 2009. We shot with a Canon HV30 HD video camera with a very talented cast with amazing costumes, a hard working crew, and a lot of heart to make a great movie.
We really had a bad case of Murphy's Law during our March 25th shoot. A brand new portable generator I bought two weeks before from The Home Depot only worked for about 2 minutes as it was turning dark and never worked after that. When myself and a crew guy couldn't get the generator to work, two of our actors dropped what they were doing and did everything possible to help us to get the generator to start. We ended up moving the shoot close to the parking lot in the park we were shooting in and adjusted the Canon HV30 for red florescent lights that the parking lot was using. We had to work around teenage drag racers in the parking lot that the police didn't bother to chase away as we were shooting. The cast and crew hung in like troopers and we did our best against Murphy and we shot usable footage for our movie.
